The early years are a blur of feedings, naps, tantrums, and a thousand firsts. From the newborn who needs you for everything, to the one-year-old insisting "I can do it," to the preschooler asking "why?" for the hundredth time, your child is changing faster in these five years than they ever will again. Most days it can feel like pure survival. But I promise you, more is being done that it appears.
Listen closely and you'll hear the same kinds of questions through the years. Your newborn is asking, "Am I safe?" Your toddler is asking, "Am I able?" Your preschooler is asking, "Am I okay?" Every time you answer by meeting a need, holding a boundary, or being consistent, you are building trust and confidence towards who they are becoming. And you are planting something deeper: the seed of a child who knows they are loved by a good God and at home among His people.
You do not have to teach a toddler theology to lay a foundation of faith. You lay it through your presence, your rhythms, and your example, by weaving God into ordinary days and bringing them into the life of the Church. A Sunday worship service, for example, might feel frustrating, but being consistent at these ages is a win every single time. What you build now is what everything else gets built on, so let's prepare well from the very start.
