more about our church

Sunday morning’s message focused on feeding the soul. True spiritual health, like physical health, depends on what we consume. We must nourish our souls with God’s Word instead of the junk food of worldly distractions.

The Diet of the Soul

Just as our physical diet shapes our health, our spiritual diet shapes our faith. James 2 reminds us that “faith without works is dead,” but works alone are not enough. We must regularly consume God’s Word. However, our culture constantly tempts us with spiritual “snacks” – quick bursts of entertainment or shallow inspiration. These may satisfy momentarily, but they leave us empty. A healthy soul can only be sustained through prayer and Bible study.

Avoiding Spiritual Junk Food

The sermon reminded us that our world overflows with things to consume. From movies to social media, everything demands our attention. While not all worldly content is “bad”, too much of even a “good” thing – even Christian content – can threaten to replace personal study. The words of others, even in clips of sermons, cannot substitute reading Scripture ourselves. To truly be feeding the soul, we must open the Bible daily and seek God’s truth firsthand. Like the Bereans in Acts 17, we must “search the Scriptures daily” to confirm and understand God’s will.

Developing a Spiritual Appetite

A healthy appetite comes with practice and desire. The more we draw near to God, the more we crave His presence. Jesus said in Matthew 5, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.” When we pursue that hunger, our hearts change. The Israelites in Nehemiah’s time experienced joy when they rediscovered and obeyed God’s law. Similarly, our obedience brings gladness when we realize that God’s Word provides the nourishment we truly need.

The Results of a Nourished Spirit

Regular Bible reading transforms lives. Studies show that those who engage with Scripture often are more joyful, peaceful, and confident in their faith. They resist temptation more easily and share their faith more freely. The sermon concluded with a challenge: take inventory of your spiritual diet. Are you feeding your soul with truth or junk? When we consume the Word, we not only grow closer to God but also find strength to live out His purpose every day.

more about our church

I began my time with the Peachtree City Church of Christ as a church member. The shepherds brought me on staff, and over the years, the needs of the church have changed and so has my position. Today, I am the preaching minister. My time with this church and its leadership has been a treasure, and I'm looking forward to many more years in His service.

I have been fortunate to call this church home for more than twenty years. As my family has grown, our church family has been gracious in supporting us and caring so well for our two sons.

I can tell you that the Peachtree City Church is unique. We'd love to hear your needs, because this might be the church for you.
