Being Made Alive in Christ

Everyone wants to live. People fight to save life, extend life, and improve it. They pour effort into medicine, nutrition, and exercise. That deep desire points straight to this Sunday’s message on being made alive in Christ. The sermon opened 1 Peter 3:18 and traced one clear journey. First Peter 3:18 says Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous. He did this to bring people to God. That single verse maps the whole path.

Every Journey Needs a Starting Point

A map helps only when a traveler knows two things. He must know his location, and he must know his destination. First Peter 3:18 names the destination clearly. Christ came to bring people to God. However, that phrase carries a key truth. God never moved. Isaiah 59 says the Lord’s hand still saves and his ear still hears. Human sin built the wall and hid God’s face. Mankind walked away, all the way back to Adam and Eve. The road to being made alive in Christ begins right there.

Sin Leaves People Dead, Not Sick

Ephesians 2:1 describes the true starting point. Paul calls people dead in their trespasses and sins. Notably, Paul writes dead, not dying and not merely sick. That distinction matters. The dead cannot revive themselves. The dead cannot act on their own behalf. Therefore no effort, shortcut, or back road closes the gap. God is just, so sin demands payment. The wages of sin is death, and human strength falls short every time.

Christ Builds the Bridge

Into that helpless place, Christ steps in. Ephesians 2:4 calls God rich in mercy. His great love reaches people even in open rebellion. Romans 5:8 says Christ died for sinners while they still sinned. He loved people at their most unlovable moment. Christ conquered death and paid the full price for sin. Because of that victory, God makes people alive together with Christ. Peter and Paul proclaim this same truth side by side.

Grace and Baptism Work Together

The message then answered one honest question. How does God actually make a person alive? Peter says baptism now saves people as an appeal to God. Ephesians 2:8 says God saves people by grace through faith. These two verses fit together instead of clashing. Noah shows how. Noah found grace in God’s eyes. Then Noah obeyed and built the ark. Likewise, grace offers salvation and baptism accepts the gift. Baptism completes the picture of being made alive in Christ. Romans 6:4 says believers rise from baptism to walk in new life.

The whole story begins and ends with life. God created life in the beginning. God offers life without end at the finish. His grace and a believer’s obedience open that door.
