A Weekend of Impact and Gratitude

This past weekend reminded us of a powerful truth: A faith that hears must also obey. Walk for Water brought our community together in an incredible way. Over 500 people registered, and many showed up to serve and walk. Through generosity, nearly $120,000 was raised, providing around 13 wells. Because of this, lives will be changed both physically and spiritually. As always, we give God the glory for every good result (James 1:17).

When Words Do Not Match Actions

However, there is a growing tension in today’s world between belief and behavior. Many people claim faith, yet their lives tell a different story. The warning in 2 Timothy 3:1–5 describes those with “the appearance of godliness” but no power. This challenge is not limited to celebrities or public figures. Instead, it reaches into our everyday lives and decisions. We must ask ourselves whether our actions align with our words. After all, A faith that hears must also obey.

Jesus’ Question That Demands Reflection

In Luke 6:46, Jesus asks a direct and uncomfortable question. “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” This question is not seeking an answer, but reflection. Jesus had just taught powerful truths about love, mercy, and forgiveness. Yet, hearing those teachings is not enough. He calls His followers to put those words into practice. True discipleship requires both confession and obedience working together.

Hearing Versus Doing the Word

Although we have constant access to Scripture, hearing alone is insufficient. James 1:22 clearly instructs us to be doers of the word, not hearers only. Otherwise, we deceive ourselves into thinking we are faithful. God’s Word is not just information; it is transformation. Therefore, we must apply what we read and hear daily. This kind of obedience builds a strong and lasting faith.

Building on the Right Foundation

Jesus illustrates this truth in Luke 6:47–49 with the parable of two builders. Both build houses, but only one digs deep to find a solid foundation. When the storm comes, the house on the rock stands firm. The house without a foundation collapses quickly and completely. The difference is not appearance, but preparation and obedience. Once again, we see that A faith that hears must also obey.

Standing Firm When the Storm Comes

Finally, storms in life will reveal the strength of our foundation. Trials such as loss, hardship, or uncertainty will test our faith. Psalm 18:2 reminds us that the Lord is our rock and refuge. Yet, we must build on Him before the storm arrives. Obedience during calm seasons prepares us for difficult ones. Therefore, let us commit to living out what we believe each day.

more about our church

I began my time with the Peachtree City Church of Christ as a church member. The shepherds brought me on staff, and over the years, the needs of the church have changed and so has my position. Today, I am the preaching minister. My time with this church and its leadership has been a treasure, and I'm looking forward to many more years in His service.

I have been fortunate to call this church home for more than twenty years. As my family has grown, our church family has been gracious in supporting us and caring so well for our two sons.

I can tell you that the Peachtree City Church is unique. We'd love to hear your needs, because this might be the church for you.
